WASHINGTON (February 27, 2026) – The Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) is pleased to announce the latest mining project to complete federal permitting— the Becky's Mine Modification project. The Bridger, Montana-based project will mine for bentonite, a versatile resource essential to American industries ranging from agriculture and construction to animal health and pharmaceuticals.
“Congratulations to the Bureau of Land Management and the American Colloid Corporation for their work to get this mining project to the permitting finish line,” said Emily Domenech, Permitting Council Executive Director. “This project is the 11th mining project to finish federal permitting, and is another success story for the Permitting Council’s Transparency Dashboard.”
"I’m thrilled to see the Becky’s Mine Modification Project complete federal permitting today,” said Rep. Troy Downing (R-MT). “This project promises to create high-paying jobs, support local families, and strengthen Montana’s economy while reinforcing our state’s leadership in responsible natural resource production. I’m grateful for the work of the Permitting Council and the Trump Administration to fast track this project and unleash Made in Montana Energy."
Added to FAST-41 in response to the Executive Order on Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production, the Becky's Mine Modification project received FAST-41 Transparency status in May of 2025.
This project is sponsored by American Colloid Corporation. The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management served as the lead federal permitting agency. Learn more about this project on the Federal Permitting Dashboard.
About the Permitting Council and FAST-41
Established in 2015 by Title 41 of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST-41), the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) is a federal agency charged with improving the transparency and predictability of the federal environmental review and authorization process for certain critical infrastructure projects. The Permitting Council is composed of the Permitting Council Executive Director, who serves as the Council Chair; 13 federal agency Council members; and the Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget. The Office of the Executive Director coordinates federal environmental reviews and authorizations for projects that seek and qualify for FAST-41 coverage, which are in turn entitled to comprehensive permitting timetables and transparent, collaborative management of those timetables on the Federal Permitting Dashboard.
