WASHINGTON (December 9, 2025) – Today, the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) announces the FAST-41 coverage of the Silver Rock Transmission project. The electricity transmission project aims to transport reliable geothermal energy in central Utah and facilitate additional market connectivity across the West.
“I am thrilled to welcome the Silver Rock Transmission project to FAST-41 coverage,” said Emily Domenech, Permitting Council Executive Director. “Projects like Silver Rock Transmission are integral to the Administration’s goal to unleash dispatchable and reliable energy for all Americans, and I am excited to see FAST-41 provide a transparent and efficient permitting process for this critical project.”
The 330-mile Silver Rock Transmission project is focused on providing grid reliability by connecting electric grids in Utah and Nevada. Project sponsors anticipate that the project could facilitate data center buildout in and around Las Vegas and Salt Lake City by providing access to new sources of power to each location.
“Our energy future will be affordable, reliable, and clean because of the decisions we make today to cut red tape and bring more energy online,” said U.S. Sen. John Curtis, R-Utah. “I welcome this decision by the Permitting Council that delivers dependable geothermal energy to customers who need it.”
"FAST-41 status is about accountability and progress,” said U.S. Rep. Celeste Maloy, R-Utah. “The Silver Rock project now has a clearer path to deliver the transmission capacity our communities rely on. I'm grateful to the Trump administration for prioritizing an all-of-the-above energy approach and efficient permitting of projects that will benefit Utahns."
Silver Rock Transmission LLC., a subsidiary of Patten Energy, is the project sponsor. The Bureau of Land Management serves as the lead federal permitting agency for this project. Learn more about the Silver Rock Transmission project on the Federal Permitting Dashboard.
About the Permitting Council and FAST-41
Established in 2015 by Title 41 of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST-41), the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) is a federal agency charged with improving the transparency and predictability of the federal environmental review and authorization process for certain critical infrastructure projects. The Permitting Council is composed of the Permitting Council Executive Director, who serves as the Council Chair; 13 federal agency Council members; and the Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget.
